Job Openings

GIS Scientist

Superior is seeking a GIS Scientist to support our work in Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio for GIS analysis, geospatial data collection, geospatial data processing, and figure/map generation for a variety of environmental projects.

The successful candidate will function as our Lead GIS Specialist. Ideal candidates must possess good communication, technical writing, and decision making skills, be self-disciplined and highly motivated, and demonstrate the ability to work individually or in a team environment. A multidisciplinary science based background is desired.

Travel, with possible overnight stays, will range between 10-20% of your time. You should be physically fit, willing and able to lift loads up to 50 pounds. While the work is focused on providing GIS and related environmental services, Superior will provide cross training to other related service areas.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide GIS support for data collection, data analysis, and management
  • Perform geospatial data management, analysis, and documentation
  • Identify published sources and download spatial data in support of projects
  • Perform geodatabase design, maintenance, and documentation
  • Provide support to multiple project teams
  • Provide training and support to field staff utilizing GPS equipment and office staff preparing drawings/plans

Required Qualifications:

  • College degree in GIS
  • 2 to 5 years of experience providing GIS and related services
  • Proficient in ArcGIS, ArcToolbox, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in GPS data collection
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong report writing and data analysis skills

Phase I ESA Staff - Multiple Openings, Michigan

Superior Environmental Corp. is seeking professional Phase I ESA staff with experience in providing these ASTM environmental site assessments for real estate transactions. If you have directly related experience you will already have excellent working knowledge of the ASTM Phase I process and related site assessment and inspection services. Work will include due diligence projects in Michigan and surrounding states.

Superior is seeking qualified staff with related experience for our Michigan offices. Ideal candidates must possess good communication, writing, and decision making skills, be self-disciplined and highly motivated, and demonstrate the ability to work individually or in a team environment. Travel, with possible overnight stays, will range between 10-35% of your time. You should be physically fit, willing and able to lift loads up to about 50 pounds. While the work is focused on providing Phase I and related real estate services, Superior will provide cross training for other relate service areas.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Data interpretation and report preparation skills
  • Good Communication Skills
  • 2 to 5 years of experience providing Phase I ESA services

  • Any experience in a similar role is beneficial as well as related service areas such as wetlands, asbestos, mold, building condition, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of soil and ground water sampling methods is a plus

Staff Scientists and Field Technicians - Multiple Openings/Locations

Superior is seeking a qualified Staff Scientist and Field Technician with 2 to 5 years of experience. Ideal candidates must possess good communication, writing, and decision making skills, be self-disciplined and highly motivated, and demonstrate the ability to work individually or in a team environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS Degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, chemistry, or a related discipline
  • Data interpretation and report preparation skills
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training
  • Prior related experience, depending on positon applied for
  • Must be able to carry a minimum of 50 pounds

Considerations:

  • Any experience in a similar technical role is beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of soil and ground water sampling methods is a plus
  • Solid working knowledge of primary State and/or bordering state regulations is a plus
  • Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments experience is a plus
  • Experience with fuel storage tank systems is a plus
  • Construction experience is a plus

Travel, with possible overnight stays, will range between 10-35%. You must have a good driving record and be able to pass a drug test.


Fuel Service Technicians - Multiple Openings/Locations

2-5 years of experience with maintenance of UST systems, dispensing systems, and automatic tank gauge systems with appropriate certifications. Additionally, the position requires knowledge and understanding of project budget control; light report and daily report preparation; and evaluating data, necessary to maintain the client’s compliance with regulatory requirements. Fuel Service Technicians are responsible for scheduling and attending required certification course(s), as required, to be properly trained on installation and maintenance attributes of UST / AST system components. Related construction and maintenance experience of UST systems a strong plus.

The position will also support Superior’s Project Management and Technical Staff, conducting environmental investigation, supervising tank removals, soil and groundwater sampling, and remediation system operation and maintenance.

Successful candidates will be able to work within strict safety guidelines, have strong mechanical aptitude, and demonstrated troubleshooting skills.

General qualifications include some knowledge of construction industry practices, UST / AST systems, or other associated trade (plumbing). Most projects occur in the field at various locations through-out the Midwest & East Coast regions, travel could be as much as 80%. Physical working conditions exist.

Considerations:

  • Experience in a similar technical role is beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems is a plus
  • Solid working knowledge State UST regulations is a plus
  • Other environmental technical experience is beneficial
  • Experience with fuel storage tank systems is a plus
  • Construction experience is a plus
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER training is required

Environmental Driller/Geoprobe Operator/Support Staff - Michigan

Environmental Driller responsibilities consist primarily of completing field investigations, such as, direct push sampling, hollow stem drilling activities, and minor equipment operation. These activities are provided with minimal oversight and high expectation of a quality product. Additionally the position requires technical expertise in various methods of sample collection and drilling methods as well as client interaction at a professional level. Environmental Drillers are required to have the ability to lead field crews safely and efficiently and to maintain direct control over all field personnel and related activities, as it pertains to drilling activities. Knowledge to anticipate unsafe acts or procedures and to ensure safety of drilling crew/equipment as well as surrounding personnel and/or property is required.

General qualifications include, more than 5 years of experience in related field, a high level of ability in multiple drilling/sampling techniques, as well as possession and ability to maintain commercial driver’s license, various drilling licenses, and client specific safety programs. Must have valid CDL and completed OSHA/40 Hour HazMat training. Drilling Support Staff will have similar experience and requirements, but less service time.

Consideration: General qualifications can include experience in related field, a high level of ability in multiple drilling/sampling techniques, as well as possession and ability to maintain commercial driver's license, operate heavy equipment, and client specific safety programs. It is beneficial to have/be able to obtain a valid CDL and completed OSHA/40 Hour HazMat training. Work involves travel and out of town stays for some projects.

Candidates should be in good physical condition and able to lift 50 to 80 pounds repeatedly without problems. You will work within strict safety guidelines, have strong mechanical aptitude, and demonstrated troubleshooting skills. Prior experience and training is beneficial.

You must be able to pass drug tests!

You will need a good driving record too.

The following qualifications are required:

  • Strong knowledge of soil and ground water sampling methods
  • Solid working knowledge of State and Federal regulations
  • Industrial air monitoring experience required
  • Data interpretation and report preparation skills required
  • Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments experience is required
  • Experience with fuel storage tank system management is a plus
  • Experienced in other technical areas such as mold inspections, asbestos, and related abatement is a plus

Travel will range between 10-35%.
